The "Bring Our Kids to SLAC Day" program that will be presented on August 1, is designed to capture the imagination of kids, both boys and girls, 9 to 16 years old to help them develop an interest in science, engineering and technology. After registration and a SLAC welcome from Dr. Persis Drell, the SLAC Director of Research, the kids will be divided up into their workshop groups, based on the workshop option chosen on the registration form. Kids 9-11 years old will attend two hands-on workshops in the morning and two in the afternoon after lunch with their parent or sponsor. Kids 12 years old and up will attend one hands-on workshop in the morning and one in the afternoon. After the last workshop, at 3:00 PM, there will be an ice cream social in the breezeway of the auditorium. Shortly thereafter, there will be a fun and interesting science talk by Dr. Graham George. Sponsors and parents are encouraged to visit their own work areas with the kids either during the lunch hour or after the science talk. All workshop choices will be based on a first come, first serve, pre-registration and are suitable for 9 through 16 years old. Please feel free to contact Teresa Troxel , x 3135, with any general questions.

Sponsors must pre-register each participant by Friday, July 26, and attend the final check in and badging process on Thursday, August 1, starting at 8:00 AM, at Panofsky Auditorium. There will be limited number of participants and we expect to fill all available space, so please register immediately. Please visit our registration page or, if you have any questions, contact Lisa Mongetta, x2733. Staff volunteers will escort groups of kids to their respective workshops. It is strictly prohibited for sponsors to take kids directly to the workshops; the workshops are not open houses. If sponsors want to accompany kids to the workshops they must sign up to be a volunteer escort. The kids will be brought back to the breezeway between the cafeteria and the auditorium by 11:30 AM, where they will be met by their sponsors for lunch. Lunch is not provided by SLAC. Most sponsors join their charges at the SLAC cafeteria for lunch. If you leave the cafeteria area, sponsors are asked to bring the kids back to the breezeway no later that 12:30 PM. Staff volunteers will escort groups of kids to their afternoon workshops. They will leave the breezeway at 12:50 PM. The volunteers will return the kids to the breezeway by 3:00 PM, where sponsors will meet them for our ice cream social.

Many volunteers are needed on the day of the event and sponsors are encouraged to participate. Please look at our volunteer web page for more information and feel free to contact Teresa Troxel , x 3135, to volunteer or to ask any questions.
