A team of over 600 people, comprised of laboratory staff, subcontractors and others, worked tirelessly for more than two and a half years to design and build the Research Support Building (RSB) at SLAC. The three-story, 65,000 square-foot building now serves as a home for the SLAC Site Office and more than half of the Laboratory's Accelerator Directorate. A grand, central stairwell and rooftop square of laminated-glass skylights allow natural light to stream into the building. Replacing more than a dozen 35-year old trailers, RSB achieved LEED® Gold Certification, the second highest rating for high-performance green buildings offered by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
