Garden Club 2004 Meeting Minutes
February 15, 2004
- Treasury - $1370
- Dues - reduced from $12 to $10 per plot. Please pay cash or check by March 1. Cash after March 1. We are lenient - to a degree.
- New Combination - Hans will e-mail and then change numbers soon thereafter.
- Wait List - Approximately 11 people on wait list.
- Walk-through - May 11 by committee Doug, Francis, Piero. If you don't show activity you will be contacted. Walk-through committee is also grievance committee - register your complaints with the committee first.
- Water - Although we were told a section of pipe under the sliding gate would be 2-inch, we ended up with less. In the future, we could bump up the size. SLAC has also said they will look into the connection at the hotel which should improve pressure. If you find a major water leak, turn off water at top of garden immediately. If leak is upstream of or at top valve, turn off water across from Gate 17.
DO NOT LEAVE WATER RUNNING IF YOU EXIT THE GARDEN.
TURN OFF ANY UNATTENDED WATER.
INSPECT TIMER SYSTEMS FOR LEAKS AND WATER SEQUENCE.
- Road work - last year we had a disturbing instance of tractor invasion for a sewer backup. As a consequence SLAC put in a gravel road for future access. Road is presently being connects with road to North of Hotel with work underway to fabricate a sliding gate for machine access.
- Chips - SLAC has a new 5-year contract so chips will be deposited at the bottom of the garden.
- Compost - will cost ~$900 from this years plot fees. Same routine as before. You will be notified regarding delivery dates and number of wheelbarrow loads per plot.
- Shed - Needs cleaning and probably roof repairs. Volunteers? REMOVE CHEMICALS/ADDITIVES/HERBACIDES/PESITICIDES BY APRIL 1.
- Tools - new wheelbarrow, weed whacker ($100), hoses, pitchfork. Hans will have key to weed whacker.
- New business - four new plots will be opened east of C13/14 with water spigots installed.
- Complaints - Herbicides/Pesticides strongly discouraged. Try to keep it organic. Round-up is not necessarily what DuPont would like you to think. Residues build up in the soil and organic activity is decreased leading to inert soil. Communicate and be considerate of your neighbors. Wind and water transport chemical compounds.
Please don't harvest crops that are not yours and report unauthorized scavengers to management.
Don't plant in walkways. Spillover is o.k. if you have an agreement with your neighbor.
Keep gates closed. If you find deer in the garden: (1) open lower gates completely, (2) walk deer through lower gates. No hunting permitted on site.
