Precision Measurements
E158 searches for New Physics at high energy scales by making precision measurements of the parity-violating asymmetry in Møller (electron-electron) scattering. This parity violation arises from interference between the electromagnetic (photon - exchange) and weak (Z - exchange) scattering amplitudes depicted in the figure below. A deviation in the measured asymmetry from the Standard Model prediction would indicate an additional photon-Z' interference effect arising from a yet-to-be discovered new force.
