A collection of
biographical essays concerning 23 women physicists and chemists in the field of
radioactivity in the first part of the 20th century. The book is noteworthy for including
nearly forgotten women scientists who worked at a time when established science did its
best to discriminate against them. Physicist and Nobel Laureate (1935) James Chadwick,
noting that radioactivity counting in Vienna was done exclusively by women, said women
"can concentrate more intensely than men, having little on their minds anyway."
