After a decade in lab management, Persis Drell announced November 1, 2011 that she will step down as SLAC director to return to her position as a faculty member. Drell will remain in her position until her successor is in place, and we look forward to her continued leadership in her remaining time at the laboratory.
To find the fifth laboratory director of SLAC, Stanford University President John Hennessy and Provost John Etchemendy have appointed a 12-member committee to conduct an international search.
Only four people have served as SLAC director since the lab’s founding, and it is their outstanding efforts and talents that have been instrumental in the laboratory’s success today. The members of this committee are dedicated to continuing this tradition and finding a new director that will keep SLAC on its path to excellence.
