An Advanced Accelerator Research Facility at SLAC

Chairs: Chan Joshi (UCLA) and Bob Siemann (SLAC)

Program Coordination: Dennis T. Palmer

Administrative Support: Angie Seymour

February 23 - 25, 2000

SLAC Conference and Training Center

SLAC is interested in establishing a user facility for advanced accelerator research, research that is crucial for the future of particle physics. The goal is providing a facility where the strengths of universities and national laboratories can be combined for rapid progress in understanding the physics and developing the technologies essential for reaching high energies.

The possible scope and experimental program of such a facility are described in ORION - An Accelerator Research Facility At SLAC.  The facility concept and experimental program were developed by a SLAC faculty committee. They are concrete enough to initiate discussions with the user community and yet preliminary enough that user input would be of significant value. This purpose of this workshop is to get that input to develop the experimental program and facility.

The workshop will be held at the SLAC Conference and Training Center (Building 272) on Wednesday through Friday, February 23 - 25, 2000. The draft agenda is

There will be four Working Groups. Each is charged with developing a research program in their areas and understanding the implications of that program on the facility including technical specifications, required equipment such as diagnostics, and facility attributes. The groups and their leaders are:

• High Gradient RF and RF Power Production - H. Braun, CERN

• Plasma Acceleration - T. Katsouleas, USC

• Laser Driven Accelerators and Structures - I. Ben-Zvi, BNL (tentative)

• Particle and Radiation Sources - J. Rosenzweig, UCLA

This workshop is an important, early step in the development of this facility. It is an opportunity for researchers interested in advanced accelerator concepts. Please attend this workshop if you have interest in this field and facility.

We would appreciate your registering by filling out the registration form.
