  1. Modulator Update – R. Cassel
    1. 4 – Dog Modulator Tests

                                                              i.      152 IGBT Boards (there are 10 IGBTs on each board), 76 Met Glass cores

                                                            ii.      3 turn coil

                                                          iii.      Pulse test up to 4 kA

                                                           iv.      Question: How many boards are wired up? 

1.      8 boards have 2 triggers, so the IGBTs can be triggered in any combination that equals 10, i.e. 9 triggered by one of the triggers and 1 by the other, or 5 triggered by one and 5 by the other.

                                                             v.      Still to do for 4 Dog

1.      Install 3 turn coils

2.      Fill oil tank

3.      Hook up 500 kW supply

4.      Complete control and protection system

                                                           vi.      Tests to be done

1.      Power in Air. Will reach 100kV and 100 Amps.

2.       Power to water loads with HV buss in air up to  500 kV and 100 amps, then  up to 500-1000 amps with oil in tank.

3.      Four 5045s, each subjected to a breakdown at > 360 kV.

4.      Full load test at > 400 kV at full rep rate and current.

5.      Question:  what will the flatness of the pulse be?  Less than 1%.

                                                         vii.      Long Term Materials

1.      New power supply should be at SLAC by 1st or 2nd week in November.  It will be installed in December.

2.      Have all Metglass cores at SLAC.

3.      IGBTs are on order, will be delivered in a few months.

    1. Need budget numbers from Cable Plant.  Will get them on 10/19/01.
    2. Overall budget is still being worked out.
