SLAC LARP Phase II Collimation-8/1/2005 (28)
10:15:00 AM-11:00:00 AM

Lew Keller: status of FLUKA runs with 60cm Carbon primaries Eric Doyle: updates to the mechanical design |
| Summary: |
Lew reported that increasing the thickness of the primary collimators in from 20cm to 60cm resulted in a decrease of the heat load on the first secondary collimator from 73kW/jaw to about 56kW/jaw, a ~25% decrease. Lew cautioned that the statistics of the job were low and that he needed to check the normalization factor [note added: check has been done- seems OK].
Eric showed three new slides (see attached file): 1.) A scheme for fabricating a helical cooling loop for the jaw which does not require that the water to flow in a brazed channel. In scheme a separate coil is formed and itself brazed into the jaw. 2) A scheme for supporting the jaw on a bearing, mounted on leaf springs, which are in turn attached to the CERN adjustment shafts. 3) Last slides points to potential clearance problems with the RF contacts. |
