Garden Club Meeting Agenda
February 28, 2000The following is a summary of the garden club meeting held on 02/28/00 meeting. Updates will be posted to this page periodically. Please send corrections or additions to mcdunn@slac.stanford.edu.
Updates:
4/27/2000
The following are a few reminders about garden rules.
There aren't specific rules for planting, except to avoid shading your neighbors. Do not enter other people's plots. Keep the paths next to your plot clear. If a hose is attached to a sprinker and timer, find another hose to use. If you want your own faucet, you can buy the materials and do the plumbing. The water shutoff is south of the Training and Conference Center trailer with the restrooms, near the parking lot, and is marked on the plot diagram.
Fencing is paid for by the gardener, if desired. There are tools in the shed as well as weed mat, some chemicals, a hand saw for cutting down shrubs, and a weed eater. DO NOT TAKE THESE MATERIALS HOME! You can store some items in the shed, but put your name on them or they are free for the taking. Please return the tools to the shed when you are done and lock the shed. If you use all the gas or string for the weed eater, replace it. If tools break or you need a different type of tool, let me know and I'll see if the garden fund can afford it. There are a couple new hoses in the shed too. The dumpster is for garden debris - please use it.4/25/2000 Reassigned four plots since they had not been cleared by the 4/18 date
Peter Weix, A7
Lars Olavson, F6
Frane Marcelja, A5
Karen Goldsmith, A8April, 2000 Mushroom compost delivered. Dumpster emptied (several times). Purchased weed mat, hand saw (for cutting down shrubs), hoes, and several hoses for gardener use. These are all in the garden shed. The chemicals on the top shelf of the shed can be used by anyone. You can store your things in the shed but BE SURE TO PUT YOUR NAME ON THEM or they are free for the taking.
3/8/2000 Gene Alvarado will do rototilling on individual plots for $10 (10' x 20'). He will clear the plot of weeds before tilling for an additional $5 per plot. Please contract directly with Gene for this service. His telephone number is 2135. Gene will also clear all the pathways with a weed eater. This expense will be paid by the club.
3/7/2000 Rakes requested by Hans Imfeld's group.
3/1/2000 Chips appeared!
3/1/2000 Yo reported bad hoses at the bib between B6 and B7, and also between B8 and B9.
Corrections to contact information and plot assignments.
If you find incorrect information on the club roster or plot diagram, please notify me (Ruth McDunn, mcdunn@slac or ext. 2014).
Deadline for making payments
Plot fees must be paid no later than 3:00 pm on Monday, March 13, 2000 or you will forfeit your plot. Fees are listed on the roster and are based on $10 per year for each 10' x 20' plot. Make checks payable to Ruth McDunn or bring exact cash to Building 40 (Central Lab), Room Y205 or send checks to MS 68.
Deadline for working plots or reassignment
The plots must be cleared and worked by noon on Tuesday, April 18, 2000 or you will be asked to turn over your plot to someone on the waiting list.
Order mushroom compost
I will contact the mushroom compost supplier for delivery around April 3. The cost is usually about $320 and will be paid for out of Garden Club funds (currently at about $500, before the current fees have been deposited). The compost is meant for everyone in the club to use - PLEASE SHARE!
Do we need any tools? Specify
The wheelbarrow tires are flat again. According to Rich Torres, the wheels go flat just from not being used. I will ask that they be filled up and if they continue to be a problem, I will buy replacement tires. I will also look over the hoses to see if we need replacements. If you know of the location of a bad hose, please let me know!
Rafael would like the club to buy a pair of hedge shears. I'll look into it.
There is another gas powered weed eater in the shed that is available for everyone to use. It runs on a mixture of gas and oil, so please contact Ramona Theobald for the correct mixture if you need to refill the gas can.
Housekeeping/etiquette
- Please don't take what is not yours.
- Please don't enter other peoples plots unless invited.
- The garden is not an auxiliary junk yard. Do not bring garbage from home to put in the dumpster or we will lose the right to have a dumpster.
- The path adjacent to your plot is also your responsibility to keep clean and free from weeds.
- Do not dump your garden garbage in the weeds behind the training center. Use the dumpster.
- Do not use any thin metal stakes that are less than 5 ft tall -- these could be impalement hazards and will be pulled out.
Miscellaneous
Rafael Miranda will call about getting wood chips. He heard of a place that offers free chips.
Someone needs to contact Liam Robinson in SEM about getting wood chips from onsite work delivered to the garden, if possible, so we can use them in the path ways. Any volunteers?
Rich Torres will call about having the dumpster emptied. (scheduled for 2/29). He will also contact Gene Alvarado to find out if he is interested in rototilling plots for gardeners and what he would charge for clearing all the pathways. Gene is off site until 3/8. Rich will let me know what he finds out when Gene returns.
P.A. Moore will contact Rick Yeager about getting the camper shell removed.
