SLAC Garden Club Meeting Minutes

Move from old site to new (present) site

-         water not acceptable but no more SLAC funds for upgrade.

-         SLAC in charge of maintenance upstream of valve at West Garden Gate.

-         Club will maintain water beyond valve (easier than asking SLAC).

-         Pedestrian access to West Gate/Panofsky Gate should be maintained

during and after User Lodge Construction – we may have to use East Gate

for vehicular access.

-         Compost drops will be made at East and West gates only. Do not permit

large trucks to pass down main road due to narrow width between water risers.

-         a re-survey of the garden was recently performed (new survey equipment).

-         Thank you note to Jonathan went out - maintain goodwill with SLAC.

Report from Treasury

-         $1,186 in new account requiring dual president/treasurer signatures for draft.

-         Non interest bearing (no taxes).

-         2001 SLAC purchased $1400 mushroom compost (~85 yards).

-         2002 plot fee: $12 per 10x20 unit (previously $10/unit).

Report of Plot Assignment Status and Rules Committee

-         Lot assignment in new garden was based on pro-rated from

previous (training center) garden.

-         Following move to new garden, all members and waiting list received plots

with some plots left over.

-         9 persons presently on waiting list.

o       three existing members seeking more plots

-         Eligibility requires full or part-time employment at SLAC (not just Stanford)

-         If member at retirement can retain plot title

-         One plot unit is 10x20 feet

-         Maximum member entitlement: two plot units (extra half plots o.k.)

-         President/Secretary/Treasury elected spring season each year

no term limit discussed.

-         All members must clear plots and path of weeds and debris adjacent to holdings.

-         No encroachment on fellow gardeners plots/paths/light planes/well being.

-         Keep tools in shed.

-         East/West Gates closed and locked when no one present – last man out locks up.

-         Take mushroom compost only in proportion to your paid lot holdings.

Volunteers Needed

-         Road grading

-         Horse stable manure/shavings delivery

-         Plot markers (similar to aluminum markers used at training center)

-         Wheelbarrow tire repair (deduct from plot fee)

-      Mowing and/or weedwhacking to keep weeds down

Important Dates

            -      February 20, 2002:   kick-off meeting this season

-      March 1, 2002:             follow-up meeting/elect officers, etc, lunch time, LOS 2

-      March 1, 2002:             plot fees due! $12/unit

-         March 15, 2002:       re-assignment of unpaid plots

-         April 1, 2002:       members may acquire un-used plots for 2002 season

-         May 1, 2002:      use it or lose it
