Communication Committee Final Reports Given to Jonathan Dorfan

From Dick Blankenbecler and Pat Kreitz, Co-Chairs

The Communication Committee officially ended its examination of SLAC communication activities last week when it gave the Director its final reports.

Jonathan Dorfan thanked the co-chairs and three task force chairs for their work and asked that they transmit his appreciation for a job well done to the twenty-one other Committee members. After reading the reports, he will distribute them to the Associate Directors who will work with Jonathan to plan implementation strategies and actions.

The Director is looking into how to make the reports available to the SLAC community. One of the Committee's findings is that some SLAC staff are without email, Web access, or lack individual mail boxes. Both the Committee and the Director wish to ensure that the reports are conveniently available to all SLAC staff, yet also wish to avoid contributing to the mailbox overload so many of you mentioned to the Committee.

The full collection of reports is the result of the dedicated work of all the committee members. The success of their efforts was made possible through the cooperation of SLAC people -- in every division and from every level. The number and quality of the thoughtful suggestions and comments made to the Communication Committee were truly impressive as was the response to the general survey.

The co-chairs would like to thank all the members of the Communication Committee. We deeply appreciate their hard work and commitment. We would also like to thank the chairs of the three task forces, Roger Erickson, Nan Phinney, and Helen Quinn, for their excellent leadership. Additionally, we received much wise and useful counsel from Victoria Bain, Communications Specialist. And finally the co-chairs would like to acknowledge the dedication, support, and excellent advice of Leslie Bachant.
